It's almost 1am, I'm finishing up my work and 3rd Glenfiddich when my boy Mike hits me up with this mini-documentary. I always love learning what these rappers are saying 15-20 years after the fact no matter what they're up to, but sometimes it's more than just an entertaining read. It was kinda crazy watching Chi-Ali in jail all humble and grown up, spitting some real shit about what freedom really means to him, with nothing ghostwritten by AG. I felt for him, but ended up checking myself more than once remembering it was him that shot and killed some dude over chump change and ended up on America's Most Wanted. This is the kind of video I'd wish all young hardrocks in the city would watch and learn something from, unfortunately they'd have no idea who Chi-Ali is/was, and wouldn't give a fuck.
Anyway, here's to The Fabulous Chi. 3 of my favourite jams.

Yo I've been house sitting for a while, got a new job, basically been sleeping on putting up these free downloads. Sorry. Way back when I was putting the songs together for Rap Nuggets, disc one had the most classic joints, and disc two had the best downlow joints. I change my mind all the time on what disc I like the best, I'm pretty sick of all of them right now to be honest. One thing I'm sure of is this disc has my favourite hip-hop song of all time. More specifically, I feel it sums up what rap music is, and should be. Feel the Vibe was the b-side to BDP's We In There 12" single in 1992. The beat is simple, dirty, and hard hitting. The lyrics are straight up battle rap, I don't think any rapper could not shit themselves if this jam was directed at them. Even though KRS-One sucks now, I don't give a fuck, this is him in his prime.

My man Bobby Wham did up a hype sampler for Rap Nuggets. He also is very responsible for the logo design that replicates The Source circa 1991. This is a dope mix that goes through the whole comp, and it gives you a good idea of what is to come once I post the rest of the discs. Hopefully this makes the rest of your Friday fly by.

Yo here are some more jams that didn't make the final box set. One track I'm really pissed I forgot about was the Still Caught Up remix, I basically thought it was 1995. It was the fist thing I'd ever heard from Saukrates, he is probably the illest Toronto rapper ever and he deserved to be on Rap Nuggets. Tracks 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11 are b-side joints you won't find on any album.

Rap Nuggets: Disc 1

Here is disc one as promised. There was never any doubt that the intro to the whole project would be KRS-One Attacks, back in the day I probably rewinded this track five or six times before even getting to the second song on the Boom Bap album. DJ Premier cuts all sorts of old BDP records together over some classic drums and a smooth piano loop and proves in a couple of minutes that he's no doubt the most influential producer ever in hip-hop. I'm looking at the entire track listing right now and there are four beats of his on this disc alone, beginning and ending with him.

Here are a few photos of the Rap Nuggets box set. It is an unauthorized compilation of some of the best, influential and most underrated rap music ever made. It is a five disc set, with tracks that span from 1990 to 1994. Also included is a 28 page zine, with magazine articles, reviews and advertisements from that same era. Rap Nuggets is limited to 50 pieces, and retails for $25.
